Opal's 3rd Birthday

Opal had an amazing birthday today. About a month ago, Opal told me, "Mama, I want a Peter Pan birthday party." So after lots of sewing and planning, Opal had her Peter Pan party today. I have discovered that Peter Pan is not the "in" thing right now. Tinkerbell is. So we had to concoct everything from scratch - which was quite exciting and fun. Opal has pretended to be Peter Pan for quite some time, and today she got the costume to go with her imagination. Our backyard became Neverland today, complete with the Mermaid Lagoon, the Indian Encampment, Hangman's Tree, and Captain Hook's Pirate Ship. Nina and Papa showed up with Papa's fishing boat decked out as a pirate ship, complete with treasure chest which Opal is digging into in the photo above. The kids got to play in the boat and find goodies in the chest like coins, swords, candy, and pirate hats. They swam in our little plastic pool and played in the teepee as well. Everyone got a handmade Peter Pan hat. Peter Pan, Wendy, John, and Michael were on the cake, and the soundtrack to good 'ole Walt Disney's Peter Pan was playing all the while. I'm telling you - yes, it was fantastic.
